Aussie Animal School Mural

It’s always a pleasure being able to share art techniques and ideas with students especially those out in regional towns and that’s how this project all came about with Yarrunga Primary School in Wangaratta. This creative process all began by having communications with the art teacher and building a concept, originally we where going to paint canvases for the grade 6’s last art project but I put forward to idea of an interactive mural and they loved it so we began planning.
What came next was: Concept sketches, coloured mock ups, planning out class structures, booking accomodation, sourcing materials and the other long list of back end work you don’t see along the way.
For the idea both the teachers and students said they’d love to see koalas, a perfect brief! Simple with a lot of room for creativity so these two little “Koala Pals” came out of the imagination. With imaginative flowers, trees and environment inspired by a Dr Seuss like made up world bringing character and life to each and every part of the wall.
The best thing about these interactive murals is not only does the school get a mural that will live there for many years to come but the students that took part in the project could always look back and say “I did that” that’s a pretty special thing to share.
