School Students bring their surroundings to life
Category: School Murals
I take pride in two key aspects when it comes to school murals. First, I create a seamless process for the school, from initiating the design conversation to delivering a professional finish that brings vibrancy, hits the mark, and stands the test of time. The mural project at Copperfield College’s Kings Park Campus was no exception.
To start, I collaborated with a focus group of creative students to develop the plan together, giving them a sense of ownership in the artwork. The theme for this mural was based around a few key words those being: Inclusiveness, future, ideas and learning and the visuals they gave me there: The globe, lightbulbs, young people and books. After playing with a few different compositions this was the final concept we went with!
A big thanks to Arts For All Inc & Apex Cobram Barooga for making this happen.
Painting Together!
To give the students a strong sense of ownership within the work I not only get their ideas to inform the design but we spend a day painting the mural together, I’ll sketch the framework of the design up on the wall with colour swatches almost as a huge colour by number. They then come in bring it to life! For years to come that focus group of creatives can come back to the school and point out parts that they not only inspired but that they physically painted also, this really makes the whole process really special.
