Pesto The Penguin makes his way to the laneways

Melbourne Street Art piece painted by local artist Lukas Kasper

Pesto The Penguin

Category: Animals & Nature | Melbourne Street Art

Being approached by Sealife Melbourne to paint the prolific Pesto The Penguin was exciting to say the least! In my early years I spent most of my time volunteering with animals and funnily enough the name “Kasper” actually derives from my first dog when I was growing up so this was a pretty awesome full circle moment to combine my love for murals, Melbourne street art & animals.

Painted in Higson Lane this giant penguin reaching a few metres high has turned heads and has become a viral sensation in it’s own right having been featured on many news sources and throughout social media, some of which you can find below.

This was one of those projects where Sealife Melbourne put complete creative control in my hands and this is usually where the best final outcome shows itself. With this big fluffy guy known for his humourous memes found all over social media I thought why not exagerate that and make him tower over his feathered friends.

There’s a really interesting conversation around commercial murals and one I understand both sides of although I tend to lean one way. I took this into consideration and heavily lent into my style, I’ve been painting similar animals around these laneways for years so I felt very happy to take this project on and do it right.
